A favorite in our household is Lao grilled chicken wings. The kids devour it. We eat our chicken wings with sticky rice and to complete the meal, we also serve it with spicy papaya salad!
There’s something about serving chicken wings, especially at parties. They’re delicious finger foods that people can’t get enough of.
Chicken wings are the best when you marinate it to perfection. To enhance the aroma of chicken wings when they’re grilling, I include chopped garlic and cilantro in the marinade. A good marinade in any Laotian household includes oyster sauce. Yes, this sauce is amazing for marinating meats. Oyster sauce is a dark brown condiment made from oyster extract, sugar, salt and water thickened with cornstarch.You’re probably thinking it’s weird to mix oyster flavor with chicken, but it’s actually a sweet sauce. I don’t even like oysters, but I’m a huge fan of oyster sauce!
You can grill them on the barbie, pop them under the broiler or in the air fryer if you want. They cook fairly quickly and in 20 minutes you get delicious chicken wings.

Lao grilled chicken wings are tasty and packed with flavor. Marinated in oyster sauce, thin soy sauce, garlic and cilantro. The aroma will make you so hungry for more.
- 3 lbs chicken wings
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp white pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 3 T oyster sauce
- 1 T thin soy sauce
- 1/3 C cilantro

In a food processor combine all the ingredients for the marinate.

Make diagonal slits in the chicken wings so the marinade is able to reach the meat.

Pour the marinade over the chicken wings. Mix the marinade until the chicken wings are evenly coated.

Grill or Broil for about 20 minutes. Flipping once to make sure they cook evenly.

The wings can also be cooked in an Air Fryer at 360° for 15-20 minutes. Flip once to make sure they cook evenly.
